Preparation > Things to Remember

Labor Admission – When you think you are in labor:

  • Notify your physician/midwife first and follow their instructions.
  • Always call the Alternative Birth Care Unit before coming in to allow us time to get a room ready and to adjust staffing.
  • If you reach a recording, follow the directions and the system will put you through to the nurse.

Parking

  • Free parking is available at Providence Hospital. During the day, you must enter through the Nine Mile/Main Entrance. Park in the Nine Mile lot or use the Valet.
  • Between the hours of 8pm and 6am, ABC patients should use the Emergency entrance on the Northeast side of the Hospital.
  • If you are in very active labor and need assistance, ask the security guard for a wheelchair and escort. Tell them you are going to the Alternative Birth Care Unit on 3 West.

Privacy

Although birth is a special event, it is also a very private and personal experience. Sometimes having too many visitors during labor can inhibit the birthing process. Family members may wait in the Family Lounge, near the elevators.

"I really don’t know where to begin...if I should talk about the warm and loving staff...Mary, Marie, Dee, Judith, Mary and all the other wonderful faces, or if I should talk about how welcoming and relaxing the ABC center was. My husband and I were treated so well and I felt like I have the best bond with each person that walked inside my room...they were so caring with genuine feelings that words can’t explain…and I can't hesitate to say that I had the best support team with my hubby, ABC staff and my doula Jamie Ferguson that anyone can ever imagine having at a special event in the birth of PRINCESS ZAHRAA....on February 7th, 2010"
